1. What are the requirements for submission?

Design Excellence - Professional Category

  • All submitted projects must be by MIID corporate members.
  • To participate you need to be a registered Interior designer registered with Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia.
  • Projects submitted must be completed from January 2016 to 30th June 2019.
  • Submissions of projects must be consented to by the client(s)/owner(s).
  • Please select “Professional” when registering on the website for the first time and fill up the required details.
  • Entries must be made on the prescribed Entry Submission Form. A separate entry form is required for each project submitted.
  • All materials submitted for MIID REKA AWARDS 2019 must in no way infringe on the copyright laws in Malaysia.
  • Shortlisted and Winning entries submitted for previous MIID-organised competitions are not eligible for consideration and are not permitted to be proposed for MIID REKA AWARDS 2019.
  • The winners may be required to present their works upon invitation and request by MIID.
  • Entrants may be submit for one or more projects for a single or or multiple categories.

Design Excellence - Student Category

  • Participants in the Student category must be an active student at the time of submission.
  • Please select “Student” when registering on the website for the first time and fill up the required details.
  • Students may only submit one project per student.
  • Submitted student projects must be approved by their lecturer.

Industry Excellence

  • The Industry Excellence awards are open to Malaysian registered companies that:
    • Construct interior works
    • Manufacture, supply or design interior products
    • Provide interior works services
    • Conduct innovative research towards the betterment of Interior Design
  • Any company may submit one or more projects, products and R&D in any of the categories.
  • Please select “Industrial” when registering on the website for the first time and fill up the required details.
  • Entries for Industry Excellence must be made on the prescribed Entry Submission Form. A separate entry form is required for each project submitted.
  • All materials submitted for MIID REKA Awards for Industry Excellence 2019 must in no way infringe the copyright laws of Malaysia.
  • Shortlisted and Winning entries submitted for previous MIID-organised competitions are not eligible for consideration and are not permitted to be proposed for MIID REKA AWARDS 2019.

2. What is the cost of entry?

3. Where and when would the award ceremony take place for the winners to be awarded?

The winners will be awarded at the MIID Annual Ball & Awards Night. Please refer to MIID website for more information.

4. How many submissions are allowed to be submitted per category?

You are allowed to submit multiple entries for any or all categories, or the same entry for multiple or all categories. The entry fee is chargeable for each entry submitted.

5. How many types of entry forms are there?

There are three different types of Entry Forms:

  1. Design Excellence - Professional Entry
  2. Design Excellence - Student Entry
  3. Industry Excellence Entry
6. When is the closing date of submission?

All entries must be submitted via the MIID REKA Awards website by Sunday, 11th August 2019, 11.59pm.

7. Which category should I choose to submit my work?

Please refer to the table below to see which category best describes your project.

DESIGN EXCELLENCE

CategoryDefinition
1) Public & Institutional (Public Spaces, Healthcare, Auditoriums, Terminals, etc.)A place that is generally open and accessible to people. A social structure in which people cooperate.
2) Leisure & Entertainment (Club, Spa, Karaoke, Cinema, Gaming, etc.)A building containing different facilities for leisure and entertainment activities.
3) Food & Beverage (Restaurants & Bars)Food and beverage are part of the service-oriented hospitality sector.
4) Corporate OfficesA corporate office is the main office, also called the headquarters, of a corporation.
5a) HospitalityHospitality is the design of service-oriented projects.
5b) Hospitality SPEC (Special Project Effective Cost)
  • Hospitality project that has budget of RM199.00 per sq.ft. or below.
  • Project must demonstrate the effective use of the budget given with maximum design result, practice effective space planning, creating an ambient and comfortable environment.
  • You are allowed to submit the same project for both Hospitality and Hospitality SPEC categories.
6) Retail & ExhibitionRetail: A space you lease for the selling of goods to consumers. Exhibition: A public display of works of art or items of interest.
7a) Residential (Houses, Apartments & Condominiums)Providing living accommodations for people to live in.
7b) Residential SPEC (Special Project Effective Cost) (Houses, Apartments & Condominiums)
  • Residential project that has budget of RM99.00 per sq.ft. or below.
  • Project must demonstrate the effective use of the budget given with maximum design result, practice effective space planning, creating an ambient and comfortable environment.
  • You are allowed to submit the same project for both Residential and Residential SPEC categories
8) Show UnitsA "display" version of manufactured home to show the living space and features of homes available.
9) Green Interior Award & Adaptive ReuseHaving a green focus that incorporates Earth-friendly practices and products. Adaptive reuse refers to the process of reusing an existing building for a purpose other than which it was originally built or designed for.
10) Student’s WorkWork that has been done at a university or college level.

8. When will the results be released?

The results will be announced at MIID Annual Ball & Awards Night 2019, on 22nd November 2019.

9. Will the results be published in any publication?

The results will be published in the MIID REKA Awards Booklet which will be distributed to all after the MIID Annual Ball & Awards Night.
