Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the requirements for submission?

Design Excellence - Professional Category

Participating professional Interior Designers and Architects for Categories 01-08 must be registered with Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM) and practicing interior design.

Projects submitted must be completed between 2020 to 31st July 2023.

Submissions of projects must be consented to by the client(s)/owner(s).

Please select “Professional” when registering on the website for the first time and fill up the required details.

Entries must be made on the prescribed Entry Submission Form. A separate entry form is required for each project submitted.

All materials submitted for MIID REKA AWARDS 2023 must in no way infringe on the copyright laws in Malaysia.

Finalists and Winning entries submitted for previous MIID-organised competitions are not eligible for consideration and are not permitted to be proposed for MIID REKA AWARDS 2023, and will be automatically disqualified if submitted.

The winners may be required to present their works upon invitation and request by MIID.

Entrants may be submit for one or more projects for a single or or multiple categories.

Design Excellence - Student Category

Participants in the Student category must be an active student at the time of submission.

Please select “Student” when registering on the website for the first time and fill up the required details.

Students may only submit one project per student.

Submitted student projects must be approved by their lecturer.

Design Excellence - Emerging Designer Award

Must be MIID Graduate/Associate/Corporate Member only.
Below 40 years of age.

Industry Excellence

The Industry Excellence awards are open to Malaysian registered companies that:
- Must be registered with CIDB (Applicable only to interior builders category)
- Construct interior works
- Manufacture, supply or design interior products
- Provide interior works services

Any company may submit one or more projects or products.
Projects submitted must be completed between 2020to 31st July 2023.

Please select “Interior Builder” or "Interior Product" when registering on the website for the first time and fill up the required details.

Entries for Industry Excellence must be made on the prescribed Entry Submission Form. A separate entry form is required for each project or product submitted.

All materials submitted for MIID REKA Awards for Industry Excellence 2023 must in no way infringe the copyright laws of Malaysia.
Shortlisted and Winning entries submitted for previous MIID-organised competitions are not eligible for consideration and are not permitted to be proposed for MIID REKA AWARDS 2023.
The winners may be required to present their works upon invitation and request by MIID.

2. What is the cost of entry?

Design Excellence (Professional - Non-Member)	RM700 per entry
Design Excellence (Student)	RM50 per entry
Design Excellence (Emerging Designer Award)	RM450 per entry
Industry Excellence (MIID Member)	RM1,800 per entry
Industry Excellence (Non-Member)	RM2,000 per entry

3. Where and when would the award ceremony take place for the winners to be awarded?

The MIID REKA Awards Ceremony will be held in conjunction with the MIID Annual Ball and Awards Night which happens at the end of the year. You are advised to check the official announcements by MIID at www.miid.org.my.

4. How many submissions are allowed to be submitted per category (Professional)?

You are allowed to submit multiple entries for any or all categories, or the same entry for multiple or all categories. The entry fee is chargeable for each entry submitted.

5. How many types of entry forms are there?

There are five different types of Entry Forms:

Design Excellence - Professional Entry
Design Excellence - Student Entry
Design Excellence - Emerging Designer Entry
Industry Excellence - Interior Builders Entry
Industry Excellence - Interior Product Entry

6. When is the closing date of submission?

All entries must be submitted via the MIID REKA Awards website by Thursday, 31st August 2023, 11.59pm.

7. Which category should I choose to submit my work?

Please refer to the table below to see which category best describes your project.

DESIGN EXCELLENCE

Category	Definition
1) Public & Institutional (Public Spaces, Healthcare, Auditoriums, Terminals, etc.)	A place that is generally open and accessible to people. A social structure in which people cooperate.
2) Food & Beverage (Restaurants & Bars)	Food and beverage are part of the service-oriented hospitality sector.
3) Corporate Offices	A corporate office is the main office, also called the headquarters, of a corporation.
4) Hospitality	Hospitality is the design of service-oriented projects.
5) Retail, Exhibition & Entertainment (Retail, Gallery, museum, Club, Fitness Centre, Karaoke, Cinema, Gaming, etc.)	Retail: A space you lease for the selling of goods to consumers. Exhibition: A public display of works of art or items of interest. Entertainment: A building containing different facilities for leisure and entertainment activities.
6) Residential (Houses, Apartments & Condominiums)	Providing living accommodations for people to live in.
7) Show Units	A "display" version of manufactured home to show the living space and features of homes available.
8) Green Interior & Adaptive Reuse	Having a green focus that incorporates Earth-friendly practices and products. Adaptive reuse refers to the process of reusing an existing building for a purpose other than which it was originally built or designed for.
Student’s Work	Work that has been done at a university or college level.
Emerging Designer	A designer who has contributed towards elevating industry standards and/or image in their cities, or impacted society through efforts to help communities and raise the quality of life.

INDUSTRY EXCELLENCE

Category	Definition
1) Interior Builders Project Size: Large (above 20,000 sqft) Medium (5,000 - 20,000 sqft) Small (below 5,000 sqft)	Completed works of building an interior space. Office and Institutional Retail and Exhibition Food and Beverage Hospitality Residential
2) Interior Products	Products that are built or supplied for the purpose of the Interior design industry of Malaysia.

8. When will the results be released?

The results will be announced at the MIID Annual Ball & Awards Night at the end of the year.

9. Will the results be published in any publication?

The results will be published in the MIID REKA Awards 2023 E-Booklet which will be made available for download after the announcement of the winners.
